The Sunrise

In 1971, beautiful Famagusta, on the north- eastern coast of Cyprus, is the most desirable resort in the Mediterranean, and The Sunrise is its most glamorous hotel. Elsewhere there is unrest and violence between Greek and Turkish communities and in 1974 Turkey invades the island to protect the Turkish Cypriot minority. As Famagusta is shelled, the city’s population flees and many expect to be home again soon.

‘The Sunrise’ tells the story of two families who are left behind and living in hiding.
